Oakboro, North Carolina is a town of 1,199 people. Their can-do attitude is reflected in a new museum, new park, popular events and millions of dollars of grants they've received for all kinds of improvements.

Historically, it was a textile town. When Stanly Knitting Mills closed in the 1990s, the downtown dried up. Local investors bought old buildings, fixed them up and laid the seeds for a new economy.
